The course authoring tool allows the creation of courses in the Learning Management System without using traditional SCORM leaning objects. Some features include: uploading video, embedding video from popular sites like YouTube and Vimeo, uploading images, PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. The ability to create as assessment for your course is also available.
Important Update - SCORM learning objects are now compatible with the Self-Authoring Tool.
Questions & Answers Portion
Besides searching for courses, can a curriculum be assigned to a group of learners?
Yes, these new learning object options can be used to create courses, which can be assembled into a curriculum (set of course), into which groups of learners can then be enrolled. Any new learners added to the group that has been enrolled will then receive the enrollment into the curriculum (set of courses) automatically.
When uploading a video learning object, what if your video is larger than 50 MB?
If your video is larger than 50MB, we recommend posting your video to a streaming service like Vimeo or Youtube and using the Learning Object "embed video" feature. This will ensure best results for your learners.
Is there an app or link that someone can use on a tablet/phone to log in to view training videos especially if they are out in the field and need immediate access?
The Tortal Learning Management System is mobile compatible and these self-authored learning objects should be viewable/accessible in standard mobile device browsers. Learners on mobile devices should simply log in to their Learning Management System and access their enrollments as normal.
Is there a limit on how many "courses" you can create?
No, we do not limit the number of courses you can create.
Can you prevent the learner from taking the test until the course has been viewed and completed 100%?
Yes, that is embedded in our course settings features. You can set up the course so that all preceding lessons have been completed in the necessary order.
Are the courses created by using this tool compatible with the reporting features in the LMS?
Yes, we have robust reporting in the LMS. These new learning objects tie seamlessly into our existing enrollment reporting.
I want to author a simple course and have employees take it on their smartphones. How do I do that through the LMS?
You simply follow the same self-authoring process described in the webinar. Because the LMS is pre-configured for mobile-responsiveness, your learners can take them on phones, tablets, etc. and everything will self-format for mobile display.
Can you go over reporting features again? Specifically what it looks like for multiple learners and all courses in the LMS?
Everything is grouped together - reporting is the same and we have the same filters in place. For example, the reporting functions are global - reporting combines all courses, lessons, etc. into the same reporting repository. There's no distinction (worries) on the person running the report. Everything will be included in the same report.
